Next-Gen Intel Nova Lake CPUs Could Pack 52 Cores, DDR5-8000
Details regarding Intel’s forthcoming Nova Lake CPU series have emerged (via chi11eddog), revealing models with as many as 52 CPU cores in total. Through this new lineup, Intel aims to significantly change its CPU offerings, boosting core counts across its Ultra 9, Ultra 7, Ultra 5, and Ultra 3 series products.
With the anticipated Nova Lake Ultra 9 CPU, Intel is said to be combining 16 P-Cores, 32 E-Cores, and 4 LP-E-Cores to form a 52-core processor. For some perspective, the current Intel Core Ultra 9 285K includes 8 P-cores and 16 E-cores. Nova Lake is set to more than double the maximum CPU core counts of Arrow Lake. Previous CPU leaks support this development.
Although Intel's new Ultra 9 series CPUs are quite remarkable, it's the entry-level CPU models that could bring about a game-changing impact on the overall PC market. Intel is reportedly developing an Ultra 5 model that will feature eight P-cores, marking a first for the company. In fact, with 8 P-Cores, 16 E-Cores, and 4 LP-E-Cores, the leading Nova Lake Ultra 5 could surpass Intel’s current-generation Ultra 9.

If these specifications prove correct, Intel’s upcoming CPUs will excel in handling highly multi-threaded tasks. However, it remains uncertain whether the new CPU generation will also enhance the company’s performance in single-threaded tasks. While multi-threaded performance is vital, many applications rely on the speed of a CPU's fastest core/thread.
Nova Lake appears to be an innovative processor architecture from Intel. With a novel core design and an increase in cores, Intel should easily surpass its existing generation models. Nonetheless, Intel should not underestimate its rivals. AMD is set to boost its core counts and improve per-core performance with Zen 6. Is Nova Lake capable of outperforming AMD’s upcoming offerings?
