Released in 2016, Gears of War 4 is, as its name suggests, the fourth installment in the Gears of War series. The game is exclusive to Xbox One but is available on PC as part of Xbox Play Anywhere. Gears of War 4 takes place 25 years after the previous title, you play as James Dominic, aka JD Fenix, the son of Marcus Fenix and Anya Stroud, accompanied by his friends Kait and Del. After fleeing their village due to an attack, the three friends will have to save their loved ones and face one of the most monstrous enemies. This FPS allows you to play in co-op split screen, with the second player having the choice to play as Kat or Del, but also online with up to 4 players to face waves of enemies in the Horde 3.0 mode. Several classes of fighters, 5 in total, are available to you so you will find one that fits your style of play. You can also improve their skills, and even build fortifications. Multiplayer battles offer different modes like Weapon Race or Dodgeball, with a balanced matchmaking that takes into account the level of the players.
If all this has made your mouth water, you should know that Gears of War 4 will be available for free the whole weekend for Xbox Live Gold subscribers. This free trial will start on January 31st at 9 pm, as part of Free Play Days, and will end on February 4th at 9 am. Regarding the series, the next installment, Gears 5, is expected to come out this year. The announcement of the game at the E3 2018 has had its effect but did not reveal much to the players, not even a release date. Microsoft has decided to provide the information about its next game bit by bit, only foreshadowing the wide window of the year 2019.
