After all, what is Dragon Ball: The Breakers?
The Dragon Ball franchise is not shy about releasing new games. Considered one of the world's most remarkable, if not the biggest, anime series, Goku and his friends have explored many gaming genres, including action, RPG, adventure, strategy, card-based, mobiles, and of course, fighting games.
To further expand its range of possibilities and engagement, Dragon Ball took many by surprise when it announced Dragon Ball: The Breakers, a new entry to the saga in the popular survival genre, made world-famous by games such as Dead by Daylight and Friday the 13th: The Game. For those interested, the formal name of the genre is asymmetrical (multiplayer) game.
But not everyone who likes Dragon Ball knows about this survival mode. To shed some light on this new installment, we have compiled all available information about Dragon Ball: The Breakers.
Dragon Ball: The Breakers gameplay
The gameplay is separated between survivors and a villain. The group of seven survivors must cooperate to escape safely in a time machine. To do so, they must accomplish objectives scattered throughout the scenario. However, the villain, called the Raider, grows stronger by the second and even transforms, which promises to make it very difficult for the group to escape. Luckily, the villains in Dragon Ball always have more than one form. So far, there are three available in the game: Freeza, Cell, and Majin Boo.
Since the characters are ordinary citizens and not super-powerful Saiyans, they have simpler abilities than the villains, who can fly and deliver mass destruction attacks. There will also be a customization system that allows players to use different types of vehicles, looks, and useful powers to evade the pursuer.
These powers come in a mechanic called the Transphere, which allows survivors to use the technique of one of the Z Warriors and gain time to accomplish their goals. According to Bandai Namco, it will be possible to equip up to three Transpheres and activate them after collecting a certain amount of power across the map. In the trailer, we see the use of Solar Flare to blind the villain and a custom character using Kamehameha. In addition, we noticed a seduction technique being employed and Oolong shapeshifting, which should not necessarily require the Transphere.
The game also features a Survivor character customization mode, allowing players to create their avatars using familiar skins from the franchise and decorative equipment bought with in-game credits or premium currency.
The maps promise to be large and composed of multiple areas that reference Akira Toriyama's universe. In the latest gameplay trailer, you can see the action unfolding on the planet Namekusei, which is one of the most iconic and recognizable from the original artwork.
Dragon Ball: The Breakers has already had several betas, and so far, the public response has been positive, even if the game is still a bit rough around the edges. The release date is set for October 14.
