Ditching Denuvo was fine for InZOI
Once again Denuvo technology is the source of concerns for video game fans. This anti-tamper and DRM system has a long story of problems and it has received severe critics as many players believe it can have an adverse effect on PC game performance. Recently-launched life simulator InZOI includes this system and it has not escaped from the controversy. Many players were concerned about Denuvo's impact on their experience, especially on the Creative Studio mode. This caused developer InZOI studio to take action in a very expeditious way.
Bye bye Denuvo
As confirmed by InZOI’s director in a statement via Steam, the studio abandoned the use of Denuvo for the Early Access version of the game, which was released last Friday.
“We initially chose to implement Denuvo as a way to protect the game from illegal distribution. At the time, we believed this would help ensure fairness for players who had properly purchased the game. However, after taking a closer look at community feedback, we quickly realized that this approach did not align with what our players wanted."
“Our initial application of Denuvo on our main development build made it so that the InZOI: Creative Studio demo build, a branch from the main build, was also applied with the same anti-tamper. Unfortunately, we failed to properly inform our players of this application during the demo period, and we sincerely apologize for that oversight.”
The outstanding figures achieved by InZOI throughout the weekend confirm that the game has not suffered any noticeable impact due to the removal of Denuvo technology. The developer studio recognized that it was somewhat of a risk but opted to offer more freedom to the players in terms of customization and modding.
“We understand that removing Denuvo increases the risk of the game being cracked and illegally distributed after release,” he said. “At the same time, we believe it opens up a valuable opportunity: it allows InZOI to become more freely configurable – unlocking new ways for players to shape new experiences for other players. We believe enabling this freedom from the very beginning will lead to innovative and long-lasting enjoyment for the community.”
At the end of the day, most players who do like a game purchase a copy of that game, and this is especially true for games that offer a lasting experience. In the case of InZOI, the Korean life simulator offers you an immersive experience with outstanding graphics that can keep you entertained for as long as you want. The game just entered Early Access but it will be expanded with additional content in the coming weeks to offer new opportunities for the players.
