AMD to launch 9850X3D and 9950X3D2 as part of its X3D CPU refresh
AMD is reportedly developing new Ryzen 9000 X3D gaming processors, both of which are expected to have higher boost clock speeds than the current models. The Ryzen 7 9850X3D will see its maximum boost clock increase to 5.6 GHz, representing a 400 MHz bump over the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. This translates to a 7.69% increase.
According to chi11ddog, there's also a Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 in the works. This processor will include two chiplets equipped with 3D V-Cache, providing a total of 192MB of L3 cache. This new “X3D2” chip is set to become AMD’s fastest gaming processor yet. Additionally, it will have a maximum boost clock speed comparable to the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, which contains a chiplet without V-Cache that achieves a higher boost clock speed.
New Ryzen coming...

Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 - 200W, 16C32T, 192MB L3 cache, 5.6GHz/4.3GHz.
Ryzen 7 9850X3D - 120W, 8C16T, 96MB L3 cache, 5.6GHz/4.7GHz.
As a result, AMD seems to have resolved the clock speed limitations of its previous X3D CPU models. Thanks to these higher clock rates, AMD is poised to enhance its single-threaded CPU performance significantly. This improvement should enhance the performance of AMD's upcoming processors across all types of workloads.
With the Ryzen 9 9950X3D2, AMD solidifies its status as the leading manufacturer of gaming-oriented CPUs. The increased clock speed of this processor should adequately counter Intel’s anticipated Arrow Lake Refresh. It will be interesting to see if the dual-chip design featuring larger X3D caches leads to even greater gaming performance.
While AMD's next-generation CPUs may soon be available, if you want top-tier gaming performance right now, the Ryzen 7 9800X3D remains the benchmark. With advanced 3D V-Cache technology, significant boosts in gaming performance, and proven efficiency, it’s the ideal choice for gamers who seek smooth frame rates and exceptional responsiveness today.
