Age of Empires: Definitive Edition arrives next month.

Microsoft has announced that Age of Empires: Definitive Edition will be available on February 20. The new version of one of the most popular real-time strategy classic of all times is finally going to be available next month. Age of Empires: Definitive Edition was supposed to launch on October 20, exactly 20 years after the release of the original game, but Microsoft decided to delay it because the developing studio needed more time to "treat the Age of Empires franchise with the respect it deserves". Age of Empires: Definitive Edition offers completely rebuilt assets, with graphics in 4K, local LAN support, and multiplayer functionality through Xbox Live, along with a new soundtrack, a brand new UI, and better gameplay options.

If you want to give it a try, you can sign up for the game´s multiplayer closed beta through the official Age of Empires: Definitive Edition website. The event will start on January 29 but you only have until January 25 to register for it. There are Definitive Editions on the way for Age of Empires II and Age of Empires III too. A completely new installment of the franchise, Age of Empires IV, was also announced at Gamescom last summer.
