NINJA GAIDEN: Ragebound brings back the legendary ninja franchise with a return to its side-scrolling roots. The game blends the razor-sharp intensity of classic 2D action with the precision, fluidity, and flair of modern design, marking the rebirth of the classic experience.
Set during the timeline of the original Ninja Gaiden trilogy, NINJA GAIDEN: Ragebound introduces Kenji Mozu, a young member of the Hayabusa clan entrusted with defending his village while Ryu Hayabusa faces threats elsewhere. His path crosses with Kumori, a fierce kunoichi from the rival Black Spider Clan. When a mysterious demonic rift engulfs their world, the two ninjas must join forces, literally. Through a soul-binding fusion, Kenji and Kumori gain new powers and form an unbreakable bond that unlocks devastating attacks and game-changing traversal abilities.
The gameplay is a masterclass in fast-paced action. NINJA GAIDEN: Ragebound features tight controls, fluid wall-running, precise air-dashing, and a reactive parry system that rewards skillful play. Kenji can tap into a charged "overload" state after slaying powerful enemies, temporarily turning into a force of destruction. Kumori, meanwhile, can shift into a hidden demon dimension to uncover alternate paths, solve platforming puzzles, and reveal threats invisible to Kenji. The ability to swap between characters or merge them creates a layered combat and exploration system that feels fresh while honoring the DNA of the original games.
The game's pixel art graphics push the aesthetic far beyond 8-bit nostalgia. Every environment, character, and animation is handcrafted with a painterly flair inspired by 90s anime and gothic fantasy. This striking art direction is matched by an electrifying soundtrack composed by Sergio de Prado, with legendary Ninja Gaiden NES composers Keiji Yamagishi, Ryuichi Niita, and Kaori Nakabai contributing tracks that bridge the old and new with haunting energy.
NINJA GAIDEN: Ragebound delivers a demanding yet fair experience that captures the spirit of the NES originals without the frustration. The game strikes a careful balance between difficulty and reward, making every boss fight and platforming gauntlet feel earned.
