It’s beautiful, mysterious, strangely quiet… and absolutely crawling with things that would very much like to turn you into dinner. The Axis Unseen is an open-world hunting horror adventure where ancient folklore gets a heavy-metal makeover. Created by Nate Purkeypile, a veteran developer who worked on games including Skyrim, Fallout 3, Fallout 4, Fallout 76, and Starfield, this is not your average walk through the woods. The trees are hiding monsters, the monsters are hiding secrets, and you are carrying a bow that probably isn't going to make you feel nearly as safe as you hoped.

Your job is simple: hunt supernatural creatures, steal their powers, and uncover the mystery behind a world where folklore has somehow become very, very real. Track your prey through the wilderness by following footprints, blood trails, sounds, and even their scent. Pay attention to the wind, stay out of sight, and learn how each creature behaves before deciding whether to strike. Of course, eventually something will probably notice you. That's when the arrows come out.

Your bow can fire a variety of supernatural ammunition, allowing you to burn enemies, manipulate the wind, distort time, and generally make the laws of physics regret getting involved. Combining different powers can open up new strategies, letting you approach each hunt in your own wonderfully dangerous way.

But hunting is only half the story. Defeated creatures grant you strange new abilities, allowing you to see scent trails, detect heat, perceive unusual colors, and uncover things that ordinary human senses would completely miss. Meanwhile, mysterious journals scattered throughout the world slowly reveal what happened to the Hunters who came before you—and why their village was wiped out.

The Axis Unseen also keeps traditional game interfaces to a minimum. Your equipment provides the information you need, from your bow indicating noise and visibility to markings on your hand revealing your health and abilities. It's immersive, practical, and considerably less distracting than opening a menu every twelve seconds.

And when things get particularly unpleasant, the soundtrack is ready to join the party. Featuring original music from Clifford Meyer, the former guitarist of post-metal bands ISIS and Red Sparowes, the game mixes heavy metal with primitive instruments to create a soundtrack that can go from unsettling wilderness ambience to apocalyptic sonic chaos.
