Xbox will launch some exclusive hits on other platforms

Sony has opened the door to a more aggressive release policy on PC for its PlayStation-exclusive titles after the huge success of Helldivers 2. Now Microsoft is also looking to expand the player base of some of its biggest exclusive releases. It's worth noticing that there are already many games that are available on Xbox and PC via Windows exclusively. The list of titles playable on both platforms via Xbox Anywhere has kept growing since the service was announced. However, releasing these games for other consoles, namely PlayStation and Nintendo Switch, seemed to be out of the question. It's not the case anymore.

Winds of change

The days of exclusive releases for specific platforms may be closer to an end. Microsoft has confirmed that it will be releasing several big hits on other platforms in an official statement that confirms the upcoming release of Grounded, Pentiment, Hi-Fi RUSH, and Sea of Thieves on PlayStation and Nintendo Switch consoles. As a bonus, Grounded and Sea of Thieves will feature cross-play across all supported platforms.

• Pentiment from Obsidian Entertainment, a truly unique, critically acclaimed, and award-winning narrative adventure game with a striking visual style inspired by history itself will be coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch on February 22.   
• Hi-Fi RUSH, the award-winning and beloved rhythm-based action game where the world syncs to the music from Tango Gameworks/Bethesda Softworks will be coming to PlayStation 5 on March 19 at midnight UTC, with pre-purchase available on PlayStation 5 digital storefronts on February 22.  
• Grounded – also from Obsidian Entertainment – a co-op survival adventure phenomenon that has welcomed 20 million players into the backyard, will be coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch on April 16. Cross-play will be supported across Xbox, PlayStation, Nintendo Switch and PC.   
• Sea of Thieves, the shared world adventure game from Rare, will be coming to PlayStation 5 on April 30 – and will be available to wishlist by PlayStation 5 players starting tomorrow, February 22. Having built a passionate community of more than 35 million players from around the world, the support of cross-play for Xbox, PlayStation and PC will allow players to experience epic pirate adventures with friends on more platforms. 

This change of course in the official policy will greatly benefit the respective communities and has already been acknowledged and supported by each of the developers, including Rare Ltd. who has even released an official video to address this matter.

Pentiment, Hi-Fi RUSH, Grounded, and Sea of Thieves will be available to play on PlayStation consoles and Nintendo Switch very soon.
