Valve's next title has just been leaked, and it will be a competitive shooter
It’s hard to find a gamer who hasn’t heard of Valve Corporation, also known as Valve Software, co-founded by Gabe Newell and Mike Harrington. Valve is widely known as the developer of the largest digital distribution platform for PC games: Steam, which has brought millions of games to players worldwide.
However, Valve is also renowned for their game development. Their debut title, the first-person shooter Half-Life, released in 1998, was a critical and commercial success and had a lasting influence on the FPS genre. In the following years, they continued to release highly acclaimed games such as Counter-Strike, Portal, Day of Defeat, Team Fortress, Left 4 Dead 2, and most recently, Half-Life: Alyx.
Valve’s games, though not released frequently, always ensure high quality. Therefore, fans were very surprised when recently, images and videos leaked about their newest game titled Deadlock began spreading across social media, despite Valve having made no official announcement about this game:
Since testers started sharing Deadlock screenshots all over the place, here's ones I can verify, featuring one of the heroes called Grey Talon. pic.twitter.com/KdZSRxObSz

The post included four screenshots allegedly from the game, showing characters (one resembling the Sniper from Team Fortress 2) fighting in a city environment that looks similar to Half-Life 2’s City 17. Another screenshot features a hero named Grey Talon, along with descriptions of the character’s weapons and abilities.
Valve had not previously hinted at working on Deadlock, making its reveal quite unexpected. There is also an 18-minute footage leak online, with the leakers describing the game as a combination of Dota 2, Team Fortress 2, Overwatch, Valorant, Smite, and Orcs Must Die. The game's art style is quite similar to Team Fortress 2 and Valorant and has a magical 1940s vibe.
The current gaming market is flooded with superpower shooters like Valorant, Overwatch and the upcoming Marvel Rivals, leading many to question what unique elements Valve's Deadlock will bring to the genre. That’s something we’ll have to wait until the game’s release to find out.
