Ultima Underworld and Syndicate are free on PC
Despite being games released in the early '90s, both Ultima Underworld and Syndicate are still referents in their respective genres. Their interfaces have aged a bit, but they continue to be quite fun and deliver quite an excellent gameplay experience. Therefore, it was quite a surprise when Electronic Arts pulled them from the GOG shop a couple of months ago, and it paved the way for the subsequent wave of speculation about new installments in the series or remakes. Unfortunately, nothing has been announced regarding that matter so far, but the games are back at GOG again, and you can get them for free for a limited time. You need to visit GOG.com, log into your account or create one if you don't have one already, and then proceed to claim them. Syndicate Plus, Syndicate Wars, Ultima Underworld 1, and Ultima Underworld 2 are available for free until September 3, and you can keep them forever.

Ultima Underworld 1 & 2 are first-person role-playing games that allow you to explore the world of Britannia. In the first one, you will have to navigate the narrow corridors of a vast dungeon known as the Stygian Abyss, looking for the Codex of Ultimate Wisdom. In the second game, you will travel between different parallel dimensions looking for a way to prevent the Guardian from conquering Britannia. Both games feature a gameplay style and interface reminiscent of games like Eye of the Beholder or Dungeon Master and will make the fans of classic RPGs like at home.

Syndicate Plus and Syndicate Wars transport you to a completely different universe in the future. You control a megacorporation that is trying to dominate the world. To achieve your goal, you have plenty of agents at your disposal. You can send them worldwide to complete different objectives, improve them with cybernetical enhancements and more powerful weapons. In Syndicate, you will o whatever it takes to control the world. In Syndicate Wars, you will have to defend the position you achieved in the first game against an insurrection caused by a virus that has been introduced into the global communication system, seeking to undermine your tight control. Both titles are isometric real-time tactics and strategy games, and they can still be counted among the best in the genre.
Remember that you can claim all of them for free on PC via GOG until September 3.
