Ubisoft announces two new Tom Clancy's The Division games
Ubisoft is a company that has a tendency to divide players. You either love them or hate them, but whatever you think, there is something that you can't take away from them: they are behind some great and extremely popular licenses, like Assassin's Creed or the various series based on Tom Clancy's novels. And that's what we're talking about today, as Ubisoft has spoken about the future of The Division in a long blog post.
After an update and some numbers about The Division, The Division 2, and its expansion, Warlords of New York, Ubisoft makes two major announcements in this article. Not only will a new game be added to the license in 2021-22, but it will also be a free-to-play game.
"While work continues on The Division 2, other Ubisoft teams have been exploring additional ways to introduce The Division to even more players. Today, we’re pleased to share that Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland, a free-to-play game set in The Division universe, is in development at our Red Storm studio."
Some details are given about The Division: Heartland, notably that the game will be independent of the rest of the series and that it will not be necessary to have played The Division and The Division 2 to enjoy it since "it will offer a new perspective on the universe in a new setting".
The second main announcement is the arrival of a mobile game taking place in The Division universe. We don't have any more details than that right now but Ubisoft promises to tell us more "soon". Finally, there is some info about tan upcoming update for The Division 2, which was announced last March:
"While it’s still too early to discuss any specific details, this update will include an entirely new game mode for The Division franchise and new methods for levelling your agents with an emphasis on increasing build variety and viability. We look forward to revealing more later this year ahead of this content’s late 2021 release."
With a novel and a movie on the way, 2021 seems like a busy year for Ubisoft when it comes to The Division. To give them a hand and take part in the beta phase of The Division: Heartland, you can register at this address already.
