The latest NVIDIA app update introduces a workaround to address performance issues
Nvidia has launched version 11.0.1 of the Nvidia App, which disables “Game Filters” by default as a way to address recently identified performance issues.
Nvidia has acknowledged that they are investigating the problem, which is linked to Game Filters. Unfortunately, there is no fix available at the moment. However, turning off game filters does help restore lost performance during gaming.
Once Nvidia identifies the root cause of this issue, a hotfix driver update should be released quickly to rectify it. This will bring back Nvidia GPU performance to standard levels and enable the use of Nvidia’s Game Filters without any performance problems.
What’s new in NVIDIA app 11.0.1
New Updates
- Game Filter now defaults to off. It can be enabled via Settings > Features > Overlay > Game Filters and Photo Mode.

There were hopes for an update from the company that would fix the pesky performance stuttering issues; however, instead of a patch, Team Green has now set the "Game Filter" feature to be off by default in version 11.0.1, which serves as a temporary solution. For those who may not know, we recently shared that the NVIDIA App's overlay has caused performance declines of up to 15% for some users, simply due to a setting that is incompatible with many games.
While turning off the "Game Filter" feature is a viable short-term solution, we are anticipating NVIDIA will issue an update soon, though it is likely that it won’t come until next month. Therefore, for now, the best option for users experiencing the problem is to disable the setting.
