Syberia and Syberia II are free on PC
You're probably used to something like this if you've been following us. It's not uncommon and even recurrent if we take the example of Epic Games, that you have the opportunity to get games for free. Today it's not the Epic Games Store but GOG who is offering some, and this time it's the first two installments in the Syberia series, Syberia and Syberia 2, that you can pick up for free right now.
Created by the recently deceased cartoonist Benoît Sokal, who is notably responsible for the Inspector Canardo series, which features a depressive and alcoholic private detective evolving in a world populated by anthropomorphic animals, being himself a duck. Benoît Sokal has also made a name for himself in video games with his very first game, Amerzone, which is often referred to in the Syberia series and served as the foundation for this universe.
Syberia puts you in the shoes of Kate Walker, a young American lawyer sent by her employer, the law firm Marson & Lormont, to the fictitious village of Valadilène in the French Alps. She needs to buy an automaton workshop belonging to the Voralberg family, but the problem is that the owner of the factory, Anna Voralberg, has just been buried. Another problem is that the heir, Hans Voralberg, has been missing for ages and everyone thinks he is dead. This is how the first part of Syberia begins. Its sequel, Syberia II, will take Kate Walker further and further in this quest, but we won't give you any more details so as not to spoil the story for you if you want to play it, as the series has a strong narrative dimension.
In terms of gameplay, Syberia, Syberia II, and even their sequel offer a similar experience. They are point-and-click adventure games with all sorts of riddles and puzzles to solve in order to progress through the story.
If you want to get Syberia and Syberia II for free, all you have to do is going to the GOG website and claim them. Don't hang around too long though, as the offer will only be available until Saturday 17 July at 3 pm. If you are seduced by this story and want to continue the adventure, you can get the last part, Syberia III, on our comparator.
