Splinter Cell: The rumors about a new game keep growing

It is quite common to see several rumors blooming on the Internet about the games that are eagerly awaited by the players. The leaks, involuntary or not, true or false, have become legion and some people are today known or reputed thanks to this kind of valuable information, so much so that some companies do not hesitate to use them to promote their games. The latest hot topic is Splinter Cell. The latest installment in the series, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, was released almost 6 years ago. Since then, fans have been eagerly awaiting the return of Sam Fisher, and speculation is rife. For two days the web has ignited after a series of tweets published by Julian Gerighty, creative director at Ubisoft in titles like The Division 2. For those who would have missed the story, here is a small summary of facts. On May 14th, Julian Gerighty, published the tweet below, explaining that he would be working on the next title in the Splinter Cell series with Dan Hay and Roman Campos Oriola.

Barely an hour later, he posts a second tweet asking fans not to retweet the previous message. A little later, another tweet is accompanied by a screenshot of a message from Stone (@GreatWallofChin) telling him to turn off his phone.

So, what is it really going on? This is, unfortunately, a question to which, we have no answer for the moment, but other elements must be taken into account. After all this, Ubisoft has explained that all this was just a big joke on the part of the creative director:

"Obviously, Julian was joking, as he likes to do. It looks like our creative directors are having fun right now. We have no announcements yet."

Yves Guillemot had already spoken on the subject, last September, telling us that we would meet Sam Fisher one day, without giving more details. In an interview with IGN in April, he said that the teams had a lot of pressure to work on a license like Splinter Cell, because of players' expectations. He also said that "people are currently taking care of the brand," and that we should see something about it at some point. Something seems to be going on with Splinter Cell. Another piece of information adds water to the mill. Ubisoft unveiled its financial results for the past fiscal year, as well as its plans for 2019-2020. And we learned that 4 AAA games would be on the program. Skull and Bones having been delayed, the only game of this scale being already announced for this period is Ghost Recon: Breakpoint. There are still three games to be discovered, and we will surely have more information on this subject at the next E3. Julian Gerighty posted a final tweet about it, asking how to remove a tweet. The creative director seems not to have lost his humor.

Simple joke of the creative director or teasing rather well orchestrated from Ubisoft? It is impossible for the moment to answer this question, but it seems that we should learn more about all this soon, whether it is during the E3 or in the months to come. In any case, the door does not seem to be completely closed for Splinter Cell.
