Razer Mako X packs compact desktop audio with built-in bass radiators

New Razer Mako X speakers pack immersive gaming audio into a compact setup

Razer's new Mako X speakers offer a compact way to improve desktop audio without taking up additional floor or under-desk space for a subwoofer. The rounded stereo speakers are now available following their October 6 launch, with a price of $99.99 / 109,99 € / £99.99.

Each speaker combines a 2.75-inch full-range driver with built-in passive radiators designed to strengthen low-frequency output. By keeping everything inside the two speaker enclosures, the Mako X avoids the need for a separate bass unit underneath the desk. Razer has also designed the speakers with desktop positioning in mind. Both units are angled upward by 40 degrees, directing sound toward someone sitting in front of a PC without requiring stands, wedges, or other makeshift solutions to tilt the drivers.

The Mako X also adds some RGB flair through 10-zone Chroma underglow lighting, which illuminates the area beneath the speakers and can be customized through Razer Synapse. Connectivity includes Bluetooth 5.3 for wireless playback from devices such as smartphones, while a 3.5mm input provides a traditional wired option alongside USB-C.

However, there is an important power requirement to consider. The primary USB-C connection handles both audio and power, but the connected source needs to provide at least 15W. Simply having a USB-C port does not necessarily mean it can supply enough power, so users should check their device's specifications beforehand.

To reach the advertised 30W RMS output, the secondary power connection requires a USB-C adapter rated at 45W or higher with support for USB Power Delivery 2.0 or newer. That adapter and the additional power cable are sold separately, meaning buyers without compatible hardware may need to spend more than the headline $99.99 price.

Virtual 7.1 surround sound is another feature with some restrictions. It requires Razer's software on Windows 11 or newer, and users must register the speakers to receive an activation code. Those using macOS, consoles, or other platforms should therefore treat surround support as an optional extra rather than a core feature.

For those who want a more powerful setup, Razer is also preparing the $149.99 / 159,99 € / £149.99 Mako for December, which adds a dedicated subwoofer. The Mako X is already available for anyone who prefers a simpler two-speaker setup, but its USB-C power requirements are worth checking before buying.
