FromSoftware has had a long and storied relationship with Sony. Once a relatively unknown studio, it gained major recognition with its first PlayStation-exclusive title, Demon’s Souls, and has since become one of the industry’s most respected developers. While a direct sequel to the acclaimed PS4-exclusive Bloodborne—their second major collaboration with Sony—seems unlikely, FromSoftware’s upcoming title The Duskbloods is already generating excitement, especially among fans of gothic action RPGs.
The Duskbloods is set to launch exclusively on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 2026. While it’s not officially titled Bloodborne 2, many see it as a spiritual successor, continuing the dark, atmospheric legacy of Yharnam with a fresh setting and new mechanics. For fans of Bloodborne, this may be the closest thing to a sequel yet.
In an interview with PlayStation Inside, former PlayStation boss Shuhei Yoshida was asked about his most anticipated Nintendo Switch 2 titles. His response showed a clear interest in The Duskbloods:
"I’m very intrigued by The Duskbloods. I’m curious to see what FromSoftware will do with a Switch exclusive on a technical level, and it’s always interesting to see what they come up with, especially after Elden Ring."
FromSoftware is currently taking a bold new direction by embracing multiplayer-oriented gameplay. Alongside The Duskbloods, they are also working on Elden Ring: Nightreign, with both titles incorporating more co-op and online elements—something the studio has traditionally avoided.
In a separate podcast with Easy Allies, Yoshida remarked: “It’s a new challenge for FromSoftware, to design a game for multiplayer,” and “Miyazaki isn’t necessarily a big fan of PvP games.”
Miyazaki himself has previously stated that he doesn’t personally enjoy PvP and wants to craft experiences that appeal to players like him—those who prefer rich, PvE-focused adventures. This aligns closely with what Yoshida—and many other fans—are looking for. Fortunately for single-player enthusiasts, Miyazaki also confirmed that FromSoftware is not abandoning single-player titles.
With The Duskbloods and Elden Ring: Nightreign both headed to the Nintendo Switch 2, fans are eager to see how the studio balances its signature storytelling and atmosphere with new multiplayer systems. While it remains unclear if Elden Ring: Nightreign will receive a Switch 2 version, one thing is certain: FromSoftware fans have a lot to look forward to.
