Epic Games will add a first-person perspective to Fortnite
Fortnite is still the most popular Battle Royale game despite the genre offering plenty of options to choose from. Following the success of Epic Games' title and PUBG, pretty much every big franchise has added a Battle Royale mode to their games or has released a standalone experience. For example, Call of Duty: Warzone is as popular as its paid counterpart, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III, and gathers thousands of players in exciting matches. There is a big difference between Fortnite and many other titles in the genre: it has always been a third-person shooting game. There is a current of Fortnite players who have been asking for a first-person view mode since the game was released, and Epic Games has always been very reticent about adding it. Fortunately, this may change soon.
First-person view mode is on the way
Last week's State of Unreal stream left us with news about the popular engine but also brought important information about Fortnite. Epic Games confirmed that it will be adding a first-person camera feature to the Unreal Editor, and showed some footage that surely looks like a first-person mode Fortnite. This would be an exciting addition to the game as it would totally change gameplay. From building to shooting, a different perspective would mean that all your interactions in the game will require a completely different approach as a player. However, it's not clear if this feature will be only available in the Unreal Editor mode or if Epic will release a specific gameplay mode where all players are forced to play in the first-person view.
The addition of a first-person view to the standard Fortnite battle royale mode is something that has not been officially confirmed yet, but this possibility is not out of the equation. It would be quite interesting to be able to swap between both perspectives mid-game, but it would probably not be optimal gameplay-wise in a game as competitive as Fortnite. The first-person view offers a limited perception of your surroundings in the game and this could be a great disadvantage for many players unless they all play under the same conditions.
In any case, it's great that Epic Games continues to improve Fortnite with novelties other than the occasional crossovers and skins. We will still have to wait a bit longer until we know more about the first-person view implementation in Fortnite, but the addition of this feature will probably happen later this year.
As you know, Fortnite is free to download and play but you can enhance your game experience with additional content by buying skins, the battle pass, and more.
