Blizzard hastily backpedals after NFT backlash
Several video game companies are showing interest in NFTs, but it seems that a majority of players are still against the addition of that type of content to their favorite games. The last example on this matter is no other than Blizzard. Not happy enough with having to deal with Microsoft's purchase and the consequences that it may have on the immediate future of the company and its games, someone recently decided to come up with a survey that asked players about their interest in NFTs. As you can imagine, it didn't take too long until it appeared on social media, and all hell broke loose.
People assumed that Blizzard was considering developing an NFT game or adding NFT to its franchises. You can currently buy cosmetic items with real money in Overwatch and World of Warcraft, but that is one thing, and implementing NFTs is entirely different. The speculation about this matter has reached such a level that Blizzard boss Mike Ybarra has tried to shut it down with a post on Twitter, where he states that "no one is doing NFTs."
No one is doing NFTs.

NFTs are a controversial matter as many people are against the environmental impact that the blockchain has. Also, most video game players are against the idea of playing for profit. It seems that the world of video games is not ready for NFTs yet, even if they are here to stay.
Only time will tell if Activision Blizzard will continue to push in that direction after the huge backlash received for just a survey. We think it would be better to solve its current problems with the law before disappointing the fans with unexpected moves. Focusing on releasing Diablo 4 and Overwatch 2 seems like a more intelligent move than annoying a community that has gone through a lot during the last year.
