AYN teases a powerful new gaming handheld with a big battery upgrade

AYN reveals Odin 3 Portal with Snapdragon 8 Elite-tier chip and big battery

AYN has shared new details about the Odin 3 Portal, an upcoming larger-screen sibling to its Odin 3 handheld, which launched in late November 2025. In a newly published YouTube video, the company confirmed several key specifications, including its processor, battery capacity, and control features, although a release date and pricing remain unannounced.

The Odin 3 Portal will use Qualcomm's Dragonwing Q8 processor, which is essentially equivalent to the Snapdragon 8 Elite. While it is no longer Qualcomm's newest flagship mobile chip, it remains a powerful option for Android gaming and emulation. The original Odin 3 uses the same silicon, continuing AYN's approach of sharing core hardware across related handheld models.

An active cooling system with a reportedly quiet fan will help manage temperatures during demanding sessions. With suitable graphics drivers, the Snapdragon 8 Elite platform can also handle some older PC games through emulation, although performance varies depending on the game and software configuration.

Battery life could be another advantage of the Portal model. AYN has confirmed a 9,000mAh battery, up from the 8,000mAh unit in the standard Odin 3. The larger capacity should provide additional endurance, although actual battery life will depend on factors such as screen brightness, workload, and performance settings.

Despite its larger display, AYN says the Odin 3 Portal is designed to remain comfortable to hold. It weighs approximately 450 grams (0.99 pounds), compared with around 390 grams (0.86 pounds) for the smaller Odin 3. That is still relatively lightweight compared with many Windows gaming handhelds, including the Lenovo Legion Go 2.

Other confirmed features include full-sized Hall Effect analog sticks, rear paddle buttons, analog triggers, and anti-fingerprint AG glass. The Hall Effect controls are designed to reduce the risk of stick drift, while the additional rear buttons offer more flexibility for games that benefit from extra inputs.

AYN has yet to reveal the Odin 3 Portal's complete specifications, price, or launch window. However, the latest teaser suggests the company is gradually preparing the device for a wider reveal, with more details expected in a future announcement.

In related handheld gaming news, ASUS announced that the ROG Xbox Ally X20, created to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Republic of Gamers, is now available to buy.
