ASUS ROG Xreal R1 AR glasses with 240Hz now available to pre-order

ASUS and Xreal have officially opened pre-orders for the new ROG Xreal R1 AR gaming glasses, bringing one of the most gaming-focused augmented reality headsets yet to market. First shown at CES 2026 and later unveiled in China, the glasses are now available through Xreal’s online store for $849 / 799€ / £749, making them significantly more expensive than most mainstream AR glasses currently available.

For comparison, Xreal’s own flagship One Pro model typically sells for around $649, with discounts occasionally lowering the price further. However, the ROG Xreal R1 introduces several hardware upgrades specifically aimed at gamers.

The biggest highlight is the display technology. ASUS claims the ROG Xreal R1 is the first commercially available AR glasses system to feature 240Hz micro-OLED displays. Most competing AR glasses currently top out at 120Hz refresh rates, making this a notable leap for smoother gameplay and lower perceived motion blur. ASUS and Xreal also advertise a 0.01ms response time, which should help improve responsiveness during fast-paced gaming sessions.

The glasses project a virtual display equivalent to up to 171 inches in size and feature a 57-degree field of view. While that may sound smaller than some VR headsets, it is more than sufficient for AR gaming since the focus remains on the virtual screen itself rather than full environmental immersion.

Weighing just 91 grams, the ROG Xreal R1 remains lightweight despite its gaming-oriented hardware. Connectivity is handled through USB-C or via the included ROG Dock, which adds additional display flexibility with two HDMI 2.0 ports and one DisplayPort 1.4 connection. The dock also includes a built-in signal switch for quickly swapping between devices.

Other features include electrochromic lens technology with three adjustable tint levels, allowing users to either darken their surroundings for greater immersion or maintain visibility of the real world. Brightness reaches up to 700 nits, while audio is powered by a “Sound by Bose” setup.

The headset also supports native 3DoF anchor mode and includes an adjustable design aimed at improving comfort during longer gaming sessions. ASUS says the glasses are designed to work especially well with gaming PCs, consoles, and handheld devices like the ROG Xbox Ally.
