Acer Predator Atlas 8 handheld arrives at a surprisingly low price

Acer surprises gamers with a lower-than-expected price for Predator Atlas 8

Acer is preparing to enter the increasingly crowded Windows gaming handheld market with its Predator Atlas 8, a device designed to compete with the likes of the ROG Xbox Ally X, MSI Claw, and Lenovo Legion Go. First unveiled at Computex 2026, the handheld is now appearing on US retailer Best Buy ahead of its expected November 1 launch.

The listing reveals a starting price of $1,299.99 / £1,299.99 (around €1,499) for a configuration equipped with 24GB of LPDDR5X memory and a 512GB SSD. The device will reportedly launch exclusively through Best Buy in the US, although wider availability has yet to be confirmed.

That price puts Acer's newcomer firmly in premium territory, but it also makes the Atlas 8 more affordable than some of its closest competitors. The MSI Claw 8 EX AI+, which uses the same Intel Arc G3 Extreme processor, costs $1,799 / €1,599 / £1,449 with 32GB of memory and a 1TB SSD. Acer's model is therefore $500 cheaper, albeit with less RAM and storage.

Under the hood, the Predator Atlas 8 features Intel's Arc G3 Extreme processor with integrated Arc B390 graphics. Buyers can also expect an 8-inch WUXGA display running at 1920 × 1200 with a 120Hz refresh rate. The screen supports variable refresh rates, covers 100% of the sRGB color space, and reaches up to 500 nits of brightness. Acer's product specifications also list up to 32GB of LPDDR5X memory running at 7,467MT/s and up to 1TB of PCIe Gen 4 NVMe storage.

The handheld also includes several features aimed at dedicated gamers. These include drift-resistant TMR joysticks, Hall-effect analog triggers, adjustable trigger modes, rear macro buttons, and an advanced cooling system designed to keep performance under control during demanding sessions.

Acer is bundling two months of Xbox Game Pass Premium with the device, providing access to a selection of games through Microsoft's subscription service. The Atlas 8 is also marketed as a Copilot+ PC, although its AI branding may be less important to buyers primarily interested in gaming performance.

With component shortages continuing to put pressure on hardware prices, the Predator Atlas 8 is hardly an affordable handheld. However, its lower entry price compared with the MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ could help Acer attract buyers looking for Intel's latest integrated graphics without paying quite as much for a premium portable gaming system.
