AMD delays Ryzen 9000 launch to August due to quality concerns

AMD has announced that its next-gen Ryzen 9000 series CPUs have been delayed until August. The news comes just days before the expected release to consumers, amid reports that reviewers had yet to receive their processors.

In a statement posted by AMD, the company said that initial units “did not meet our full quality expectations” during final checks. This led to the decision to delay the release until next month. Specifically, AMD’s 6-core Ryzen 5 9600X and 8-core Ryzen 7 9700X will be released on August 8th. One week later, on August 15th, AMD’s 12-core Ryzen 9 9900X and 16-core Ryzen 9 9950X will become available.

Below is AMD’s full statement on the delay. In short, AMD discovered that some of their initial Ryzen 9000 production units did not meet the company’s standards. Instead of allowing these CPUs to enter circulation, AMD is working with their channel partners to find and replace these early production units. This will ensure that Zen 5 CPU buyers have the best possible experience at launch.

Thanks to this delay, AMD is making sure that their Zen 5/Ryzen 9000 launch is not affected by a small number of sub-par CPUs. Fortunately, this issue will only delay AMD’s Ryzen 9000 CPU launch by around two weeks. A delay of less than a month is unlikely to dissuade people from buying the new parts if they want them. Given the recent challenges around Intel’s 13th and 14th Gen parts, it seems like AMD is taking a very cautious approach.

Currently, it is unknown when official reviews will go live for AMD’s new Zen 5 CPUs. Additionally, the official pricing for AMD’s new Ryzen 9000 CPUs has not been disclosed yet.
