AMD announces the Ryzen 9 9950X3D and 9900X3D processors
Last year, AMD introduced the Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU, which was specifically optimized for gaming by utilizing AMD’s 2nd generation X3D technology to achieve exceptional gaming performance. Now, AMD has unveiled CES 2025 with their Ryzen 9000X3D CPUs, this time targeting both creators and gamers. The Ryzen 9 9950X3D and Ryzen 9 9900X3D have entered the scene!
With the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, AMD has incorporated its second-generation 3D V-Cache technology into one of the CPU’s chiplets. This modification results in a total cache of 144MB, which is an increase of 64MB compared to a standard Ryzen 9 9950X.
In terms of gaming performance, AMD asserts an average boost of 8% across 40 games compared to their previous 7950X3D. However, it is important to highlight that many titles see improvements exceeding 20%. Clearly, some games take greater advantage of AMD’s Zen 5 cores and Gen 2 3D V-Cache than others.

When compared to Intel’s Core Ultra 9 285K, AMD's new 9950X3D shows an average performance increase of 20%. This positions AMD’s latest X3D processors as the clear choice for contemporary gaming tasks.
For content creators, the Ryzen 9 9950X3D yields more significant performance improvements than in gaming. AMD reports an average of 13% faster performance across 20 productivity and creation applications in comparison to the previous 7950X3D.

Relative to Intel’s 285K, AMD claims a 10% faster performance for creation tasks with their 9950X3D. This establishes AMD’s CPU as superior in both gaming and productivity scenarios.
In addition to the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, AMD is also introducing the 9900X3D. Both processors are equipped with 3D V-Cache and AMD’s Zen 5 CPU cores. The main distinctions between these two CPUs lie in their core counts and maximum CPU clock speeds. Below, you can find a comparison of both CPUs.

Both of these CPUs are set to be launched in March 2025. Until then, while waiting for more exciting news, remember to use our comparison tool to find the best deal for your next favorite game.
